Aching muscles

6 Okt

…from laughing so hard last night.

What a wonderful evening I had yesterday.

In the course of the popular Cologne Comedy Festival the brilliant TV Comedian Michael Kessler and his band “Die Pommesgabeln” gave a concert in the Kulturkirche, a church built in 1889, which today is partially used for cultural events.

It is a wonderful place with a magical atmosphere.

Michael Kessler, who is actually a part of the ensemble of the Comedy TV Show “Switch”, performed Songs from German actors and TV stars, who at some point of their career thought it would be a good idea to sing. From that emerged some whimsical music pearls, that Kessler performed with all his soul and comedian talent. My folks and I laughed nonstop for 2 hours.

What a great start for the week!

Sunday Melancholy

3 Okt

My dear Readers,

do you sometimes have the feeling that Sunday evenings can be clouded by the thought that  the sweet weekend bliss is almost over?

So I thought I make a list of things I am looking forward to for the upcoming week.

1. Going to the concert of ingenious TV Comedian Michael Kessler.

2. Enjoying the last nice sunny and warm days this year.

3. Going for a evening run in this lovely autumn weather (because soon it will be too dark for it)

4. Starting a book my good friends Christina recommended.

5. Date night with hubby: Dressing up and going to  the opening of a fancy new club in Düsseldorf

So, enough things to look forward to. What are your plans for the week?

Don't Kappel the Hoff

29 Sep

My Dears,

Time for silliness today. I have to show you the  present I made my lovely friend and maid of honor Steffi (I told you we went to Mallorca for her 30th birthday).

Our running gag over years is admiring David Hasselhoff and his song “Looking for freedom” (I have to underline, that it was just a joke!!!).

One day we discovered this crazy T-Shirts on the web and from that day on we used the phrase “Don’t Hassel the Hoff” constantly.

So it is a lovely coincidence, that my friends last name is Kappelhoff, and you can guess what came to my mind: Make her an exclusive and awesome “Don’t Kappel the Hoff”-Shirt. So I went to the print shop, where they already did our wedding invitations and menu cards and had a shirt made in pink with pink Swarowski Crystals. I know, it is a little over the top and cheesy, but Steffi went crazy about it. Her sister is a little jealous now and wants one, too :-)

How do you like it?

Let me eat cake

5 Jul

Having the best B-day so far. Woke up and this lovely cake welcomed me. Its delicious.

Just played a little Tennis match with my love, but we had to surrender to the sun and so we will hop into the cool lake now.
Enjoy your day!

Love at first sight

1 Jul

My Dearest!

Once in a while you find something on the web that you fall in love with immediately. That was exactly what happened to me when I saw the work of Katie Sokoler from colormekatie for the first time.

Katie is an artist and photographer from Brooklyn and what she creates with some paper, a camera and her creative mind is so refreshing and inspiring to me.

How it works is: Katie has an idea for an image, mostly involving colored cardboards which she cuts in different shapes, like for example clouds and raindrops in this picture:

Like you can guess, Katie’s apartment is so adorable, because she literally lives in her art.

But Katie doesn’t stop there. Another wonderful thing she does is her streetart where she involves total strangers in her work and lets the coincidences work for her. From that evolve the coolest spontaneous street pics. Like this woman with the funny shadow.

Be sure to check out Katies lovely blog and this link, where you can watch a video about her work.

Thank you so much Katie, for letting me share your work. I have such a great respect for it and I am so looking forward to your upcoming projects!

Great Start for the Weekend

15 Mai

My dear Readers,

hope you all have a great week-end. What are your plans?

We started off nice yesterday. Just a half hour drive from us there is a wonderful castle called Adendorf, where they have a huge market, a little like a farmer’s market, but also with clothes, garden furniture, art, even cars and a lot of other stuff, all fitting in the country theme. We went there two years ago for the first time and were absolutely thrilled about it. It is so beautiful, so many things to discover and be inspired by.

For foodies like us the Market is heaven. We met there with two friends, who also appreciate good food and drinks and had yummy Tarte Flambee and a very tasty Riesling wine (I didn’t know, German white wine is so tasty, I am more a red wine person elsewise). I have to get this wine for our wedding, I think, people will love it.

There were many great sculptures, I especially loved this Giraffe Mum with Baby

And there were more wild creatures

Isn’t this a beautiful flower installation?

I told you about my father handcrafting birdhouses – he would have enjoyed this cute ones, I am sure

How cool is this car?

Couldn’ think of a better way to start the week-end.

So enjoy yours, relax and refill your energy.

The Surrender of the Shoe Closet

13 Mai

How much shoes can a closet take? That is the big question my lovely friend Steffi asked herself.

Looks like she won over the poor thing.

Sometimes I ask myself: Am I  not a typical girl, because I am not addicted with shoes? I think, I have only like 15 pair, this is very little, right?

I believe there are two kinds of women:

The majority, who are the shoe fanatics.

And the other small group like me, who are more into bags, scarfs and other accessoires.

What typ are you? What overcrowds your wardrobe so much, that you don’t have space for your actual clothes?

This Babies-Movie looks awesome

6 Mai

Guys, I found this movie trailer on the web and I melted away. Now I am sooooo curious about it, but it won’t come out in Germany out until August. Did anybody see it yet?  And how did you like it?

Design Inspiration by Jen Ramos

28 Apr

Spring for me is always a time where I come up with ideas of redesigning our apartment because everything should be fresh and new. So I am looking here and there for inspirations. One website I really love is madebygirl by Jen Ramos. She has a shop where you can purchase the sweetest prints (I have an eye on this wedding print, that I will definitely order for us) and her blog is full of eyecandy. On her website you can also find a post about Jen’s home and how she decorated it. So adorable! Have a look.

I love this “Romeo and Juliet” Painting, Jen did herself:

What a nice place to get to work

"Wednesdays I'm in love…"

25 Apr

When you are a couple and you are both very committed to your jobs it is quite hard to spend quality time together in your everyday life, because you work late, have to do grocery shopping, household, meet friends and family, etc. So a few month ago the man of my heart suggested that Wednesday should be our constant day where we plan the evening just for the two of us. I thought that this was such a sweet idea and from that day on we really stuck to it. It doesn’t mean that we always plan big events on that day, but we take care that we are not distracted by anything else, keep the notebooks and phones switched off and just do what we are up to on that day: go see a movie, cook a new recipe, do sports together, etc.

Then a few weeks ago I came up with the additional idea that we write little notes with restaurants we always wanted to try out, put them in a glass, so we can draw one every now and then and go there spontaneously on one of our Wednesdays. So we tried it out this week for the first time and we drew the restaurant “Acht” in Cologne.

I have to say it really was a maginificant find. “Acht” has a rustic charme but it is also very modern and bright. They have a wonderful brick wall (which I am such a fan of) and an open kitchen. The service was so kind and helpful and the food was superb. I had a super yummy Risotto with scallops and my sweetheart had lamb with vegetables. The Rioja wine we had was one of the best I ever tasted.

So our first draw was a success on all levels and I am looking forward to the next discovery. I will keep you up with that and besides: I can recommend a “quality time”-day once a week. We really appreciate this time we have just for us.
